China-Pakistan Healthcare Cooperation – First Eyecare Center Under the Liaoning Healthy Silk Road Project
Authorities in Pakistan and China are implementing a joint eyecare project for adolescents and children. The effort will aim to establish a health corridor in Pakistan along the same lines as a trade corridor.
Authorities from the Pakistan Embassy in China and the Liaoning Provincial Development held a signing ceremony. The ceremony was held in the capital Beijing on September 29.
In the ceremony, the Minister of Pakistan in China, the representatives from the International Cooperation Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Belt and Road Construction Promotion Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Chinese Private Economic International Cooperation Chamber of Commerce, the Liaoning Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Liaoning Branch of China Export Credit-Insurance Corporation, and Eye Clinic Representatives from other institutions were present.

Liaoning Health Silk Road Action Adolescents Eye Health Comprehensive Project
Liaoning provincial development was shortlisted by the Provincial Development and Reform Commission. The selection was mainly because of its expertise in medical technology, medical equipment, medical products, and training of medical personnel.
Wang Zhuoming said that the eyecare project falls under the Liaoning Silk Road Health Cooperation. This cooperation aims to build a sustainable and healthy future for the whole world. Mr. Wang serves as the deputy director of the Liaoning Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
“The Liaoning Health Silk Road Action Adolescents Eye Health Comprehensive Project in Pakistan has been launched this time, and it is an important public health cooperation project serving Pakistan’s society and people’s livelihood” he added.
The representative from the Embassy of Pakistan, Mr. Ahmed Farooq, said that the project help improves the outdated methods. It will promote screening through state-of-the-art smart medical methods and establish electronic eye health files for students. Furthermore, he believes that this endeavor will benefit around two million children. Mr. Farooq holds the office of the Deputy Chief of Mission.
Increased Cooperation Across All Fronts
The project kicks off by starting the training of local professionals in Pakistan. The local ‘eyes team’ will then be able to manage and be part of basic equipment upgrades, advanced medical technology, and ophthalmology personnel training programs.
“The project will boost our cooperation with China in the field of eye health, and help the Liaoning Health Silk Road Action to move forward to a high level of open cooperation. He further said Pakistan fully supports the Belt and Road initiatives,” Ahmed Farooq added.
The project is part of bigger initiatives between the two countries that further strengthen their bonds. Moreover, the aims of the project are in line with other projects. This includes the Silk Route revamping project and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) of China.

The addition of healthcare cooperation along the same lines as trade cooperation will benefit Pakistan a lot in the long run. The project will see an increase in technology and knowledge transfer while enabling better access to affordable healthcare not only in Pakistan but to all countries falling under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Projects like these will benefit society as a whole while taking care of the health and safety of the people.
